Burr–it’s cold! It’s a challenge in extreme weather, hot or cold, to keep our animals comfortable in an outdoor environment. That’s why the hard-working volunteers at West Star Ranch monitor the dogs’ enclosures several times daily, making sure that they have clean dry bedding, food and clean water, and keeping up with “dog-doo duty.” Playtime and walks are included when we have enough folks to help out.

During this cold snap, all of our critters who will tolerate sweaters or jackets are wearing them. As most animal lovers know all too well, you simply cannot keep a dog in a jacket (or in a house) if it prefers otherwise. But we do our best to keep everyone warm and cozy. To all of our supporters and the community, we’d love to have you as a volunteer! We’re always open to your ideas and suggestions.

But no matter what the weather, remember most of our critters have all faced hunger and homelessness prior to coming to the Ranch. What West Star provides, day in and day out, is a kind, loving and safe place where dogs can recover, refuel, and resocialize. We’re proud of the fact that most of our dogs are placed in loving homes, and if they can’t be re-homed, we are a 100% no kill shelter, and we will care for those dogs and cats until they cross the rainbow bridge. We appreciate your support!
